The Department of Art at NDNU is known for its rigorous studio practice and the Madison Art Center, which includes the Wiegand Gallery. The quality of the NDNU Department of Art is made up of a combination of the working artists who are the faculty and our small class sizes. This allows for significant faculty individual interaction with students. The Department seeks the aesthetic, intellectual, and spiritual fulfillment of its students through the development of creative intuition, technical competence, and cultural sensitivity.
Students working toward a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art will follow a studio art program which includes the study of Art History. The BFA is tailored for those who wish to pursue a career in art, and is the preferred, and sometimes required, degree for entrance into an MFA program. All students will develop a professional portfolio upon completion of their degree.
Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Graphic Design have the unique experience of career-oriented instruction in graphic design studio practice with added fundamentals in fine art. A dedicated Macintosh lab is located in Madison Art Center for students to develop and hone their skills.
Minors in Art and Art and Graphic design are also available, as well as an interdisciplinary minor in Web Design.
See the NDNU General Catalog for the program requirements and course descriptions.
