What are the Benefits of a Master’s in Education as a Teacher? – NDNU
By Charlie Davenport
The field of education offers expansive opportunities, whether it’s in the classroom as an instructor, a school administrator, like a principal, or the opportunity to be a voice in the national dialogue on education.
To begin your path of becoming a teacher, you must be patient and have a genuine passion for learning, as you will be viewed as a role model by students and parents.
To pursue your Master’s Degree in Education, you need to have received a bachelor’s degree. Your bachelor’s doesn’t need to be in education to earn your Master’s in Education. In the state of California, to be an instructor in the college and university setting, a master’s is mandatory. Going back to school to earn your master’s has payoffs that will last a lifetime.
Here are a few to get your inspired:
- Having an emphasis in a field of interest, such as; special education, school counselor, librarian, etc, will benefit your journey and help you stand out in interviews and promotion opportunities.
- You’ll earn a lifetime of experience learning from educators in your field of study while obtaining hands-on experience.
- Many master programs offer fieldwork by offering or integrating practicum opportunities into your curriculum (depending on the school you choose) to help you better understand the work/life balance.
- Qualification for higher paying positions
- Time commitment of two years as opposed to four along with opportunity to learn fully online or continue in-person, dependent on your learning style
Once you’ve graduated with your master’s new-found knowledge in tow, you will then have the freedom to choose your next step, with more opportunity than before.
Weigh out additional pros and cons if you are still on the fence. Reaching out to prospective institutions to better understand what they have to offer will help you start your higher education journey.
