How Much Can You Make with a Master’s in Education? – NDNU
By Charlie Davenport
For starters, to obtain a master’s, you need to have received a bachelor’s degree. You do not need to have a Bachelor’s in Education to earn your Master’s in Education. It is frequently necessary to hold at least a master’s degree if you want to be an instructor in the college and university setting.
A Master’s Degree in Education opens doors for promotions, the opportunity to start your own business, and the option to be a voice in the national dialogue on education.
The field of education is one that is always expanding, whether it’s in the classroom as an instructor or a stepping stone to start your journey to becoming a school administrator, like a principal. Being on the front lines of education, you will be seen as a role model by many students.
To feel comfortable with that type of expectations, enrolling in higher education will help you refine and strengthen your skill sets.
Emphasis in a field of interest,
Dependent on your current status in the field of Education, to move up to a more focused field of interest can be better achieved in grad school. These specialties included but are not limited to: special education, school counselor, librarian, principal, etc. Lessons will teach you more about the field you want to pursue as opposed to the customary “broad” umbrella a bachelor’s comes with.
Learning from educators in your field of study, while obtaining hands-on experience
Many professors you will meet and learn from either have or had experience in your field of interest. This gives you more opportunities to learn about specific scenarios, how to handle them, recover, and move forward. Dependent on the master program you choose, many integrate practicum opportunities into your curriculum further helping you better understand the work/life balance and experience in action.
Qualification for higher paying positions
Expanding your knowledge on top of brandishing your master’s will be a win-win for promotional opportunities. Once you’ve graduated with your master’s new-found knowledge in tow, you will then have the freedom to choose your next step, with more opportunity than before. Do not be discouraged if you do not get the first position you apply for.
The right fit will present itself, and potentially offer more pay than what you intended. Additionally, if you currently love your position and are seeking a raise, letting your superiors know of your newly obtained master’s degree can help justify that pay increase.
