Statement on the Israel-Hamas Conflict
As the Israel-Hamas conflict intensifies, the tragic loss of life continues to increase on both sides. It is important to emphasize that NDNU strongly condemns terrorism and acts of violence in any form. The many innocent civilians, including men, women, and children, who have lost their lives, or have been affected by the violence is a tragedy. Empathy for the suffering and loss experienced by individuals and families, regardless of their nationality or affiliation, is a fundamental aspect of promoting peace and understanding in such a challenging and deeply rooted conflict.
The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur East-West Province also issued a statement in response to the escalation of the conflict:
Once again, our hearts are torn by the violence between peoples of faith. The deaths of so many innocent people are senseless and not in God’s vision of the beloved community. We pray for peace and encourage each of us to make choices for peace in our communities.
As Pope Francis said, “Terrorism and extremism do not help to reach a solution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, but fuel hatred, violence, revenge, and only cause each other to suffer. The Middle East needs a peace built on dialogue and the courage of fraternity.”
