Remembering President Jimmy Carter
January 9, 2024
Today is a National Day of Mourning in honor of President Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, humanitarian, and advocate for peace. His legacy is one of compassion, service, and a relentless commitment to justice, values that resonate deeply with the mission of Notre Dame de Namur University.
Throughout his life, President Carter worked tirelessly to promote human rights, alleviate suffering, and build bridges of understanding across the globe. From his post-presidential work with Habitat for Humanity to his leadership through the Carter Center, he inspired countless individuals to embrace the call to serve others, a spirit we hold dear at NDNU.
As a man of profound faith, intellect, and empathy, President Carter’s life reminds us of the power of one person to make a difference. His commitment to ethical leadership and peace echoes the values of respect, justice, and care for all people that we strive to instill in our students and carry forward in our work.
May his legacy continue to inspire us as we seek to live out the ideals of service and social justice that define his life’s work.
