Local Mental Health Professionals Gather for Networking and Reunion
NDNU Clinical Psychology alumni gather to celebrate decades of education and service
For Immediate Release
Belmont, Calif. (October 12, 2021) – Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) will celebrate the rich history of its Clinical Psychology program on Saturday, October 30, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, with a reunion and networking event.
For nearly four decades, NDNU has trained mental health professionals and psychotherapists including licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) and Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC) who provide mental health services around the Bay Area. As part of their program leading to an MS in Clinical Psychology, graduate student trainees provide a total of 20,000 hours of service each year to local mental health clinics serving some of the most vulnerable populations in the Peninsula. NDNU Clinical Psychology alumni and some of these partner agencies will attend the event.
According to Dr. Helen Marlo, Professor and Chair of NDNU’s Clinical Psychology Department, “The pandemic has increased the need for higher quality, community mental health services. Simultaneously, it has also raised awareness of the vital importance of mental health. There is a cost to individual lives, and the health of our communities, for not seeking services.” With an increase in the attention given to the importance of mental health services for youth and adults, demand for graduates from NDNU’s Clinical Psychology program has remained strong through the pandemic.
“The Clinical Psychology program at NDNU has a long history of providing mental health services and graduating practitioners dedicated to helping their community. This program embodies the mission of NDNU by joining professional curriculum with our core values of service, justice, community, and diversity,” said Beth Martin, President of NDNU.
Individuals who are interested in learning more about a career as a mental health professional and the MS Clinical Psychology program at NDNU are encouraged to attend a Grad Open House on the NDNU campus on Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 10:00 – 11:30 am and then stay for the Clinical Psychology reunion and celebration event from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to speak with current students as well as alumni to learn about the program and a career in mental health.
