Notre Dame de Namur University Announces the Appointment of Four New Board Members
New board members will bring new perspective with valuable experience and leadership skills.

BELMONT, Calif. – Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) announced today the appointment of four new members to the university’s board of directors.
Joining the board are Rosanne Foust, Maureen Freschet, Sr. Nancy O’Shea, SNDdeN, and Dr. Alex Parnia.
The appointment of these new board members will bring new perspective to the current board with valuable experience and leadership skills.
Dan Carey, Interim President for NDNU stated, “Each of these four trustees was invited because of their track record in working with organizations and communities, and their connection and commitment to the university and its future. Their counsel and expertise will bring energy to our board and strengthen the commitment to timely solutions to help serve NDNU.”
“We are excited to welcome Ms. Foust, Ms. Freschet, Sr. O’Shea and Dr. Parnia, to our Board of Trustees. They bring significant experience in: strategy, economic growth and development, leadership, community relations and partnerships and higher education,” Board Chair Sr. Jean Stoner said.
Rosanne Foust is currently the President and CEO of the San Mateo County Economic Development Association. She is the leading voice of the business community in San Mateo County and across the Bay Area on issues important to maintaining a strong local and regional economy, attracting and retaining major employers and good jobs, and creating partnerships between business and government to address critical issues. She has served for twelve years in local government, and had a twenty year career with Alsace Development International USA Inc. in multiple positions. She received her master’s in Public Administration from NDNU.
Maureen Freschet has deep roots and broad connections in San Mateo County and has held numerous appointments to local, county and regional boards and commissions, including the San Mateo County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission and Executive Board for the Service League of San Mateo County. She currently serves as an officer of the San Mateo Police Activities League Board of Directors. Freschet is a former Mayor of the City of San Mateo. She chaired the San Mateo Planning Commission before being elected to the San Mateo City Council in 2011 where she served with distinction for 8 years. She has also served as President of the Belmont Chamber of Commerce and devoted her career to government/community relations and development at NDNU where she earned her BS in Human Services and a master’s in Public Administration.
Sr. Nancy O’Shea is a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur. Sr. O’Shea started her career as a teacher and then principal for schools throughout California and Washington. Later she provided her administrative and management skills as a member of the California Province Leadership team. A most satisfying assignment was ministering as a pastoral associate at St. Patrick’s Parish in Sonora, CA for 12 years, where she interacted with the greater community, serving as a chaplain for hospice, training lay leaders and leading grief support groups. Most recently she served as one of five members of the Congregational Leadership Team, based in Rome, interacting with Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur throughout the world. She received a BA and Secondary Teaching Credential from the College of Notre Dame.
Dr. Alex Parnia is currently the President of a leading worldwide platform MSM-USA, supporting the international education sector in Canada and the U.S., and has more than 38 years of experience in higher education in the United States. Prior to joining MSM, he was the president of EC Higher Education where he formed international partnerships with top U.S. universities. Prior to EC Higher Education, Dr. Parnia has served as president, executive VP, provost and tenured faculty member at other various institutions including Cambridge and Nichols Colleges. He has a strong track record for increasing revenues significantly, and experience in growing enrollment for numerous institutions.
