Notre Dame de Namur University Announces Appointment of Daniel (Dan) J. Carey as Interim President
New head of university brings decades of experience as college president
For Immediate Release (1/7/2020)
Belmont, Calif.—The Board of Trustees of Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) announced today the selection of Daniel (Dan) J. Carey, PhD, as the college’s interim president. He will begin his appointment on January 13, 2020.
“Dr. Carey will bring his deep commitment, extensive experience, and dynamic leadership to the Notre Dame de Namur campus and community as interim president,” said Notre Dame Board President Sister Jean Stoner SNDdeN.
Dr. Carey has successfully served for 19 years as president of two independent colleges, providing leadership for the transformation of both campuses. His experience with faith-based institutions includes 33 years as president or vice president for four Catholic colleges and universities.
“I’m strongly committed to Catholic higher education,” said Dr. Carey. “My interest in Notre Dame de Namur begins with a deep respect for the university’s long and successful history.”
Dr. Carey’s last position as college president was at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. At Edgewood, Dr. Carey increased revenue and improved diversity and retention. Prior to his tenure at Edgewood, Dr. Carey served as president of Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, where he grew the student enrollment and recruited vital leaders to cabinet-level positions. Since retiring in 2014, Dr. Carey has provided executive coaching for a number of college and university presidents. He earned a PhD from the University of Northern Colorado, and completed an intensive postdoctoral seminar at Harvard University for senior administrators.
“We look forward to working together with Dr. Carey to build the future of Notre Dame de Namur as an institution of higher education,” said Sister Jean Stoner.
