Events Celebrate 150th Anniversary of Notre Dame de Namur University Charter
Charter Week from October 8 to 13 features activities related to history of NDNU

Belmont, Calif.— Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its charter with Charter Week activities from October 8 to 13, 2018. In 1868, NDNU became the first institution in California authorized to grant the baccalaureate degree to women. The Charter Week events will focus on the university’s past and its historic campus.
“We hope community members will join us here to celebrate this milestone,” said President Judith Maxwell Greig. “History buffs, runners, and walkers will particularly enjoy the Charter Week events.”
Public events will feature:
Wednesday, October 10
Time Capsule Ceremony, 6:30 p.m., Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Library
A time capsule with materials about the university will be sealed, to be opened in 50 years. NDNU President Judith Maxwell Greig will preside.
History Panel, 7:00–8:30 p.m., Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Library
Leading experts discuss the history of the campus and Belmont, including the compelling stories and personalities behind the university and Ralston Mansion. Moderated by George Metropulos.
Saturday, October 13
Start of Belmont Water Dog Run, in front of Ralston Mansion on Laxague Drive
