Events include sculptured glass tour on March 10, history exhibition, and Belmont Water Dog Run
For Immediate Release (3/9/2018)
Belmont, Calif.—In 2018, Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its charter from the state of California, which made NDNU the first institution authorized to grant the baccalaureate degree to women. Events marking the anniversary include tours of the sculptured glass in Cunningham Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 10; a rotating exhibit on the university’s history; and the Belmont Water Dog Run on October 13, 2018.
“The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who founded NDNU in the mid-nineteenth century were trailblazers in education and social justice,” said President Judith Maxwell Greig. “The 150th anniversary gives us a wonderful opportunity to honor those foundresses, to look back on the university’s accomplishments, and to consider how to apply the values of the sisters’ Hallmarks to the rapidly shifting landscape of the twenty-first century.”
The free guided tours of the sculptured glass in Cunningham Memorial Chapel at NDNU will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur will offer the tours every 45 minutes starting at 11:00 a.m., with the last tour at 1:15 p.m. The glass windows are the work of world-famous artist Gabriel Loire of Chartres, France. Location: NDNU, 1500 Ralston Ave., Belmont.
The exhibition on the university’s history is a rotating display of rarely seen photos and memorabilia that is open to the public. The exhibit is located on the NDNU campus in Gellert Library. See the library’s website for hours.
The Belmont Water Dog Run on October 13, 2018, is a community event for children and adults that starts at Ralston Hall on NDNU’s historic campus. The schedule also includes a Fido Run for dog owners.
