Congratulations, you’re in!
We’re thrilled that you will be joining the NDNU community. You probably have lots of questions about next steps now that you have been admitted. Don’t worry! We’re here to help make your transition to NDNU an easy one.
There are a few items that will need your immediate attention. Start planning by completing the following steps:
Domestic (US) Students
What you need to do before you start your classes:
Any enrollment deposit received will be applied against the cost of tuition for the upcoming school session.
You should already have received your admissions confirmation letter, together with separate confirmations of your NDNU student email ID and instructions as to how to access the Campus Portal. The Campus Portal is a confidential website that provides you with information to courses, class schedules and more.
Payments or payment arrangements must be made with the Business Office on or before the payment deadlines. For the fall, spring and summer semesters, the respective deadlines are August 15, January 5 and May 5. For explanations or assistance regarding payment, please contact NDNU’s Business Office or review the following step by step instructions for how to pay your deposit on the Campus Portal.

The Admissions Office will need final, official transcripts for all coursework previously completed at another college or university. Your missing documents must be submitted to Admissions within two months of your start date otherwise you will be unable to register for the next semester. If you have not done so already, please request that your official transcripts from your previous schools be sent to us as soon as possible. It is a good idea to request that an extra copy be sent directly to you as well.
To obtain financial aid, you must be admitted to a program. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 units per semester to be eligible for aid. All credential students must be enrolled in 6 units per semester to be eligible for aid. Wait-listed classes do not apply.
If you have not completed your financial aid application and/or not received an award letter, please contact the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office cannot release funds for the semester until all your documents are in.

Your Program Leader works with you throughout the admissions process to create your personal Academic Plan.
This plan, once finalized, will be part of your agenda with Bonnie Lui, Academic Advisor/International Student Advisor. Bonnie will support you through the process of registering for courses and navigating NDNU’s email and student portal systems.

To register for classes, login to your Campus Portal account after you have worked with your academic advisor to choose your classes. Click “Advising and Registration” on the left-hand side and use the “Add/Drop” function to search the schedule of available courses. Later on, you will be able to see your personal course schedule, view details about your classes and textbooks, and access forms and tutorials, by starting at that “Students” tab and clicking through the various available links.
If you choose to drop a class, please be aware of the following: Once registered, students may add and drop themselves from classes online through the applicable deadline per academic calendar. Drop deadlines occur on the Friday of the second week of the 15-week semester or 8-week module. NDNU’s Tuition Refund Policy can be found on the Business Office webpage. These deadlines are listed on the Academic Calendar – make sure you bookmark it and check it weekly for important dates to be aware of.
Log in to Campus Portal and review your class schedule.
You are responsible for dropping your classes. You will not be automatically dropped from a class if you do not show up.
Your new NDNU email account is now active if you are registered for classes. Your username is formed by using the first letter of your first name and your last name. Your email address will be your username@student.ndnu.edu. To access your email here. Enter your user name. Your password is comprised of the first two letters of your last name and the last four numbers of your NDNU Student ID.
In your student email inbox you will find your password for your Campus Portal Account. It is important that you access this information within 30 days of being admitted because the message will be deleted after that time period. All of your student information will be accessible to you online in your Campus Portal Account. Questions? Call the Help Desk at 650-508-3555.

International Students

The following provides essential information to begin your journey as an NDNU student. Use the following list to keep track of tasks to complete before classes start.
Notre Dame de Namur University has partnered with PayMyTuition for international payments to NDNU. With PayMyTuition, you can make payments from any bank, in any country in any currency, at better than bank exchange rates. You can use this service to pay tuition or any other NDNU charges.

You will separately receive an e-packet including the I-20 form the PDSO in our admissions office.
- Review your I-20 document when you receive it and check that all the information is correct (spelling of your name, birth date, program dates, etc.)
- Pay the SEVIS fee
- Locate your local U.S. Consulate and schedule an appointment for a visa interview.
- Create a folder for all your important documents and make extra copies of all your immigration documents.
- Visit your doctor and get a health check-up.

Before the term begins, you must complete payments for the outstanding balance on your student account for the semester through PayMyTuition. This will include the cost of housing should you choose to live on-campus. To determine what your balance is, please contact the Business Office, or use this guide which provides instructions for accessing your account on the Campus Portal.

- Arrange for travel to the U.S. and plan to arrive at least one week before the first day of orientation. On-Campus housing is available on an annual basis starting 10 days prior to the first day of the fall semester.
- Confirm that you have all US State Department required immunizations
- Check out Housing alternatives on and off-campus. Information regarding On-campus housing is available. A resource for finding Off-campus housing can be found here.
- Review and purchase Student Health insurance through your chosen vendor. A helpful resource can be found here. Note: Health insurance coverage that meets J-1 visa level requirements is required for all students who wish to live on campus.
- Plan your finances and make arrangements with your local bank about banking options overseas
- Arrange for travel from airport to your local U.S. housing. Students living on campus can coordinate an airport pickup with the housing office (housing@ndnu.edu)
- Check out the International Students Resources page to learn more about things to do once you arrive, handy local information, and how to successfully maintain your F-1 visa status.
- Remember to breathe! We’re looking forward to meeting you in person!
- Make an appointment to check in with NDNU’s PDSO, and a seperate appointment with Bonnie Lui, Student Academic Advisor and Success Coach. Bring your passport, I-94 card and any other international paperwork to the meeting with the PDSO.
- Move into permanent housing and update your local address using the Campus Portal

Email Accounts
How can I activate my Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) email account?
You will be sent an email to your personal email account you provided at the time of admission, which will provide instructions on how to set up your NDNU student email account. If you need assistance, you can reach Bonnie Lui, International Student Advisor/Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) at blui@ndnu.edu or 650-649-9168. This phone has WhatsApp capability, but if you prefer to Zoom or Skype, Bonnie will accommodate those as well.
How do I check email?
Click on the “Resources” tab on the top right-hand side of NDNU’s main page here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Student Email” under “Students”
What if I forget my password?

Do I have to use my NDNU e-mail account? I already have an existing address.
All official University communications to students are sent to the NDNU student email account. You are asked to use and check your account daily.

Registration
When will I register for classes?
You will meet with your academic advisor to select your classes once you have completed the admissions process. Please refer to the academic calendar to meet all registration deadlines here. If you have any questions, please contact your designated academic advisor or if you need additional assistance, please reach out to NDNU’s International Student Advisor/PDSO.
Do I have to take any placement tests?
No. However, you will need to provide proof of English Language proficiency and test options with required passing scores. Proof of test scores must be submitted to NDNU’s Admissions Office during the application process.

Services for Students with Disabilities
How do I know if my condition is considered to be a disability and if I qualify for accommodations?
The federal guidelines provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) define a disability as a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits a major life activity. Major life activities include, but are not limited to, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working, caring for oneself, and performing manual tasks. Each case is considered individually, but generally, a chronic health condition that fits the above definition would be considered for disability status. Physical problems expected to last more than five weeks may be considered disabilities. Regardless, it must create a substantial limitation in ability to function as a student to qualify as a disability.
If you received accommodations and/or modifications in high school or at another college or university, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Disability Resource Center at drc@ndnu.edu.
How are reasonable accommodations determined?
Eligibility for accommodation is determined by the Disabilities Specialist at NDNU. Per federal guidelines, the process is initiated by the student’s submission of appropriate documentation that supports the presence of disability. Determinations regarding eligibility result from both the submission of appropriate documentation, and the student’s interactive discussion with the campus Disabilities Specialist. The Disabilities Specialist can be contacted directly at drc@ndnu.edu.
What is the procedure for requesting academic/testing accommodations at NDNU?
Accommodated testing is available for individuals with documented disability who qualify for this type of academic accommodation.
