Dr. O’Brien brings extensive higher education experience and commitment
BELMONT, Calif. (December 16, 2021) – Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) President Dr. Lizbeth Martin announced the recent appointment of a new member to the university’s Board of Trustees. Joining the Board is Dr. Patricia O’Brien, SNDdeN, appointed to a three-year term by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur US East-West Province Leadership Team.
“I am very honored to join the Board of Trustees of a university with such a long tradition of academic excellence and service to the community,” said O’Brien. “I am excited to apply my many years of experience in higher education to the important work of helping NDNU thrive in today’s challenging educational landscape. NDNU is a special place and I hope to assist the good people who are charting an exciting path for its future.”
Dr. O’Brien is Senior Vice President of the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. NECHE is the regional accrediting association for colleges and universities in the six New England states. NECHE accredits over 220 colleges and universities. She has served on governing boards for three institutions sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur: Notre Dame Education Center in South Boston, MA, Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, MA, and Trinity Washington University in DC, where she was chair of the board for nine years.
“Dr. O’Brien’s work demonstrates a strong commitment to both mission and institutional effectiveness,” Martin stated. “As we transform to a smaller primarily graduate university, we are excited to have a Trustee with such a broad range of experiences and abilities join our Board.”
“We are delighted to welcome Sister Patricia to the Board,” said NDNU Board Chair Sr. Jean Stoner, SNDdeN. “Her extensive experience in higher education accreditation, university administration, and faculty work will add so much value to the Board. We are thrilled that she has joined us and look forward to benefiting from her many talents.”
