Do I Need to go to Business School to Start a Business?
By Charlie Davenport
To put it simply, no you do not need to go to business school to kick off your future business goals. If you’re conflicted, read on. According to Forbes, a hands-on education teaches future entrepreneurs the skills needed to succeed until you know them like the back of your hand.
If you already have a bachelor’s degree, regardless of the emphasis, pursuing a master’s in business is attainable. Many future business owners work full-time while pursuing their side ventures, so enrolling in a school best suited to your work/life balance is crucial.
Building on your bachelor’s by enrolling in grad school to obtain a Master’s Degree in Business Administration establishes a strong foundation for your future ventures.
For example, if you pursue a master’s in business administration, you can discover that what you learn in class is instantly applicable to your current position.
This doesn’t mean you can’t pursue your business ventures, keep in mind that gaining experience inside the classroom that can instantly be applied to the real world is a valuable tool to have. Additionally, as you age and get more life experience and clarity about the type of career you want, developing relationships and networking might become easier.
The opportunity to expand your network, without having to attend mixers that may not be your cup of tea, by simply showing up to class is a huge win. You’ll learn from professionals in the field of business, many who are actively working and choose to teach on the side. And on top of that, you’ll have your peers to learn with and potentially keep in touch with post-graduation.
As you continue building your business, you will have strong resources, knowledge and a network to support you further in your endeavors.
