In Memoriam: Robert Webster, Distinguished Guiding Light at Notre Dame de Namur University
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a beloved member of the Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) community, Robert Webster. Bob passed away on Sunday, February 4, leaving an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
Bob’s relationship with NDNU began with his beloved wife Carla, who entered then College of Notre Dame in 1966 as a freshman, and then went on to earn two more degrees from CND. Carla introduced Bob into the NDNU community through her participation in alumni activities, and eventually the Board of Trustees, which he served on from 2008-2016, and was Vice Chair, 2012-16. He also served as chair of NDNU’s Student Affairs Committee during his tenure on the Board. Carla served as a Trustee as well and both are Trustees Emeriti.
The Websters’ ongoing support of NDNU, and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, was so extensive that many members of the community considered Bob extended family. Because of the strength of the relationship that Bob and Carla held with the university, they decided to further their support through the Bob and Carla Repetto Webster Endowed Scholarship. In establishing this scholarship, Bob said, “We believe in the university, its mission, and the Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.”
Bob’s life was characterized by a deep commitment to family, a passion for knowledge, and an unwavering dedication to helping others. His circle of friends was a testament to the warmth of his personality. Always ready with a smile, a listening ear, or a helping hand, he touched the lives of many. His genuine kindness and ability to make others feel valued created a community around him that was bound by friendship and mutual respect.
As we mourn the loss of Bob Webster, let us also celebrate the rich tapestry of a life well-lived. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May we find solace in the countless memories of joy and shared experiences, and may his legacy inspire us all to live with the same grace, compassion, generosity, and love that defined his remarkable journey on this earth.
Rest in peace, Bob Webster. Your legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of Notre Dame de Namur University. There will be a private family burial, with no public services being held.
