Notre Dame de Namur University Announces the Election of Linda Kern PhD to its Board of Trustees
Linda brings extensive business and higher education experience to the university
BELMONT, Calif. (September 19, 2022) – Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) President Lizbeth Martin announces the recent election of a new member to the university’s Board of Trustees. Joining the Board for a three-year term is Linda Kern PhD.
“I am very honored to serve on Notre Dame de Namur University’s Board of Trustees – especially at such an important and exciting moment in the School’s history,” said Linda.
Dr. Kern led Notre Dame High School in Belmont through the pandemic as Interim Head of School and is deeply familiar not only with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur (SNDdeN) Hallmarks and mission, but also with the challenges and best practices for building effective online learning communities. Linda began her career in education as a researcher and university professor. While completing her PhD at Harvard University in organizational change, she worked at Harvard’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning, and received six Certificates for Distinction in Teaching. She has also taught at Georgetown, Brown, Rutgers, and the George Washington University, as well as in the Great Books Program at St. John’s College.
Linda has a lifelong passion for iterating on creative, research-based solutions to optimize student learning. Her successful education start-ups have included Wonder Kids! (an award-winning STEM summer camp), and MathStrong (a highly effective online math program that integrates Math, Brain, and Education research). Linda’s most recent start-up, Studia, develops custom software solutions to help schools manage logistics, including the ever-increasing demand for supplemental programming.
“Linda is a highly accomplished leader who brings a tremendous amount of expertise in higher education and business leadership,” Martin stated. “As we transform to offer more on-line degrees and programs, her background will be a value addition to the Board.”
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Kern to the Board,” said NDNU Board Chair Sr. Jean Stoner, SNDdeN. “In addition to her extensive background and experience, she’s very familiar with our university community and mission. I look forward to working with her to build a strong future for NDNU.”
