NDNU President Carey Responds to Chauvin Verdict
NDNU students and graduates – your values and action are sorely needed in the world today.
For Immediate Release — April 21, 2021
Dear NDNU Community,
In the words yesterday of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, “George Floyd mattered. He was loved by his family and friends… but that isn’t why he mattered. He mattered because he was a human being.”
Our nation and our communities have a long way to go toward achieving racial justice, toward seeing the dignity and sacredness in each person. Now more than ever, we need people working on behalf of justice in the world, actively dismantling the racist structures and systems present in our society.
We honor the legacy of our foundresses, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and their tireless efforts for justice, peace, and education in our world. NDNU students and graduates – your values and action are sorely needed in the world today.
St. Julie Billiart, foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame put it this way: “Come, we must have great courage in the century we live in. Great souls are needed, souls that have the interests of the greater glory of God at heart.”
Together, we will continue this legacy as we work toward a more just and anti-racist society.
Dan Carey
Interim President
