Notre Dame de Namur University Takes Part in Historic Transfer Agreement between California Nonprofit Private Universities and Public Community Colleges
New accord provides pathway for community college students to finish bachelor’s degree at a private university
For Immediate Release (7/25/2018)
Belmont, Calif.—As part of a historic agreement between California community colleges and nonprofit private universities, Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) is taking part in a new transfer pathway that admits students graduating from two-year, public institutions to a bachelor’s degree program.
“We’re excited to participate in this new agreement,” said NDNU Provost and Senior Vice President Hernan Bucheli. “It’s a huge win for California transfer students seeking the small classes and individual attention of a private university. This agreement paves a new road for community college students from all over the state to attend Notre Dame de Namur University.”
The historic memorandum of understanding between the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) was signed on July 25, 2018. It adds a bridge to connect private colleges to the California Master Plan for Higher Education, which has provided a conduit since the 1960s for community college students who have earned an associate degree for transfer to attend four-year, public universities.
“NDNU will continue to accept transfer students from community colleges and other universities who have not yet completed an associate degree,” added Bucheli. “What this agreement does is to guarantee admission as a junior for a student who earns an associate degree for transfer at a California community college in a program that dovetails with our curriculum.”
